Revelation’s Seven Churches

God's Plumbline

Upon reading Christ’s assessment of Revelation’s seven churches, it is obvious that Christ’s analysis of these ancient churches is not a good report about them or of their leaders.

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

Key Takeaways

  • Christ’s assessment of Revelation’s Seven Churches highlights poor spiritual conditions, aiming to guide today’s churches.
  • The article presents a local and prophetic application, urging Christians to assess their spiritual health.
  • Warnings of judgment are given to most churches; however, Smyrna and Philadelphia receive no condemnation.
  • Christ approves works among several churches but rebukes the last church, Laodicea, for its lukewarm state.
  • The article concludes that modern Christianity increasingly reflects the self-focus of the Laodicean church rather than the faithfulness seen in Smyrna and Philadelphia.

Are You Walking in Spirit or in the Flesh?

Part 1 of the Spirit, Soul and the Body series examined the spiritual ‘organs’ God has provided to us within our “Inner Man“. However, the Bible contains many strange statements that are not easily understood – especially the warning to “walking in the spirit” and to not “walk in the flesh“:

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but [who walk] after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1)

Estimated reading time: 10 minutes

Key Takeaways

  • The article explores the Biblical concept of ‘walking in the spirit’ versus ‘walking in the flesh’.
  • It highlights key doctrines such as holiness, sanctification, and righteousness that relate to ‘walking in the spirit’.
  • The ‘Inward Man’ is the combination of spirit and soul that operates within the physical body.
  • Christians must experience a ‘new birth’ and grow spiritually to effectively ‘walk in the spirit’.
  • Satan’s influence can lead believers away from the truth, preventing them from attaining eternal life.

Paradise in Hell?

Burning in flames - No Salvation!

Do you know the Bible reveals there are five compartments within Hell? Most Christians will acknowledge there is a “hell” but know little more than that. But what about there being a Paradise in Hell, you say?

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

Key Takeaways

  • The Bible describes five compartments of Hell. This includes Paradise and Hades, separated by a great gulf.
  • When Jesus died, He went to Paradise in Hell to preach to the spirits of the Old Testament saints awaiting redemption.
  • After three days and nights, Christ was resurrected from His death and became our High Priest in Heaven. He did this by offering His blood as the ultimate sacrifice.
  • Paradise in Hell has been empty for 2,000 years because truly ‘born-again’ Christians go directly to Heaven upon death.
  • To avoid Hell, Christians must obey the Apostle Paul’s Gospel, also referred to as ‘My Gospel.’

I recently read a blog post where the author believed Christ did NOT go to Hell. He explained the basis of his beliefs, but I reject his claims.

The Significance of Loving Truth

Truth vs lies

The significance of “Loving Truth” is closely associated with Salvation. On the contrary, I have discovered that human nature has a habit of avoiding “Loving Truth” in favour for “Convenient Truth”.

When circumstances dictate that people must face up to, they invariably do everything they can to avoid the issue. In this, they often fail to appreciate that their Creator is wanting them to confront whatever “truth” He has placed before them. God does this to determine if He is able to present to them the most important truth in their life, which often involves the Gospel message of Salvation in Jesus Christ.

Therefore, it can be seen that “having a love of the truth” is essential for Salvation to be achieved.

Understanding My Gospel

The Apostle Paul termed “My Gospel’ and his other teachings a “mystery”. He therefore required Christians to develop knowledge, wisdom and understanding of the scriptures (Col 1:9) to attain spiritual maturity so as to fully appreciate what he was saying.

Paul also stated that “OBEDIENCE of the faith” (Rom 16:26) is a basic requirement of Salvation. Such “Obedience” must be understood and applied in the Christian life (Rom 10:16) for salvation to be achieved.

The ‘Mystery’ of the Gospel

If Paul considered ‘My Gospel’ to be a “mystery”, why then are the modern gospels so simple in their presentation?  Could it be that there is MORE to the True Gospel of Jesus Christ than most Christians have been told or believe? Have the modern gospels replaced “obedience” with tolerance and “love” (Phil 1:17)?
